INTERNSHIPS
Saint Michael's Playhouse
General Information
Saint Michael's Playhouse offers a variety of internships for
undergraduates, graduate students and young professionals with an interest
in professional theatre. Interns work
side by side with professional directors, designers, actors, stage managers and technicians.
Some interns may be eligible to enroll in the Actors' Equity Membership Candidate Program. Interns must complete an entire season's residency with the
theater. Schedules are rigorous;
interns work day and evening crews. Applicants
must show a strong interest in furthering their professional development
and a commitment to working in an equity stock theater. Saint
Michael's Playhouse Internships are paid positions and include room and
board (10 meals per week). Transportation is not covered. Interns are housed in
shared dorm rooms on
the campus of Saint Michael's College. The
Playhouse is a professional Equity summer stock theater with a fully
equipped, air-conditioned, 366-seat, proscenium theater built in 1975.
The Playhouse produces four shows each season and has been in
operation on the campus of Saint Michael's College since 1947.
PRODUCTION
INTERNSHIPS
ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNSHIPS
Screening and hiring process will begin
upon receipt of applications and will continue until the
application deadline of March 9. Please submit all application materials
ASAP.
PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP
Production Interns work closely with professional supervisors, designers,
staff and actors.
Candidates must be
serious about pursuing a career in theatre and must possess previously
acquired skills in areas of theatrical production work.
Internships are offered in the following departments: Carpentry, Scenic
Painting, Props, Costumes, Electrics, Sound, Stage Management and General
Production. General
Productions Interns
are assigned to various production departments throughout season.
Duties will include daytime work crews and evening running crews.
Production Interns may
additionally be assigned work on the Playhouse Children’s Theater
Non-Equity productions.
Commitment
Candidates must commit
to the entire Saint Michael’s Playhouse Production Internship Program,
which includes production work on all four professional Equity
productions. Internship Program runs from
May 30-August
9, 2009
Housing and
Stipend
$200 per week plus room
and board. All interns are housed
in double dormitory rooms on the campus of Saint Michael’s College.
Dining Hall is adjacent to dormitory and the meal plan consists of 10
meals per week. Interns have option of adding extra meals to the plan for
an additional fee, paid by the intern directly to the dining service
company.

ADMINISTRATIVE
INTERNSHIP
Administrative Interns will work in a variety of arts administrative
capacities including box office, house management, company management,
marketing, and public relations. Responsibilities will also include
production running crews (if needed) and assistance with strike and
change-over.
Administrative Interns may additionally be assigned work on the Playhouse
Children’s Theater Non-Equity productions.
Commitment
Candidates must commit
to the entire Saint Michael’s Playhouse Administrative Internship Program.
Candidates must have strong arts administrative experience and be
seriously considering a career in theater. Internship Program runs
from May 30-August
9, 2009
